Acting Assistant Professor | Psychiatrist or Psychologist, Mental Health and the Law
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) are seeking candidates for one full-time or part-time faculty position at the rank of Acting Assistant Professor.
Acting Assistant Professor appointments are for one year, renewable up to a maximum of four years, consistent with university policy.
Acting faculty hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Part-time positions are not eligible for visa sponsorship. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is an integral component of the UW School of Medicine and shares UW Medicines mission to Improve the Health of the Public. We accomplish this by providing the best care we can today, conducting research to develop better treatments for tomorrow, and inspiring and training the next generation of health care professionals for the Pacific Northwest. As the only academic psychiatry department serving Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, we are committed to improving access to psychiatric care, consultation, and training throughout the greater Pacific Northwest. Our educational programs include training for UW medical students from a five-state region (WWAMI), a nationally competitive psychiatry residency program with more than 90 psychiatry residents in Seattle and in two regional residency tracks in Idaho and Montana, subspecialty fellowships in neuropsychiatry, addiction, child and adolescent, consultation-liaison, and geriatric psychiatry, a nationally renowned scientist-practitioner psychology internship program, and numerous post-doctoral clinical and research fellowships.
The department is home to the Garvey Institute for Brain Health Solutions which supports scholarly collaborations including a new collaborative effort between the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the UW School of Law. This collaboration may include such efforts as a combined mental health and law clinic, a study of Washington States civil commitment system, and efforts to improve mental health training and support for first responders and law enforcement professionals.
The base salary range for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
The base salary range for someone with an MD/DO for an Acting Assistant Professor position will be $17,500 - $22,084 per month ($210,000 - $265,008 annually).
The base salary range for someone with a PhD/PsyD for an Acting Assistant Professor will be $110,004 - $125,004 annually ($9,167 - $10,417 per month).
Additional compensation associated with this position may include incentive payments through University of Washington (UWP) practice plan.
For psychiatrists, an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent) is required.
For psychologists, a PhD or PsyD (or foreign equivalent), licensed to practice psychology or eligibility to become licensed in Washington State.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa with patient care duties, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
