Astranis is on a mission to bridge the digital divide by connecting the four billion people worldwide who currently lack internet access. We're doing this by building the next generation of smaller, more cost-effective spacecraft to bring the world online.

As a team, weve launched two satellites into orbit, signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $500 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 300 engineers. We work out of our San Francisco office, once used for shipbuilding during the World Wars.

Our satellites operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg, and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each can connect over two million people, impacting regions like the Philippines, Peru, and Mexico.

RF/Communication Systems Engineer

As an RF/Communication Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the architecture, design, and modeling of our satellite communication payloads. You will collaborate with teams including antenna, SDR, RF, DSP, and mechanical to optimize radio systems.

• Conduct architectural trade studies and establish system and unit requirements via analysis or simulation.
• Lead R&D efforts for new radio features, technologies, and custom components.
• Collaborate with RF, Antenna, digital hardware, FPGA, mechanical, and thermal teams.
• Design and test signal processing algorithms related to communications.
• Assist in recruiting and hiring new team members.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience.
• Strong communication skills (oral and written).
• Fundamentals in signals, systems, and digital communications.
• Familiarity with hardware components and their impairments.
• Experience testing radio hardware with tools like signal generators and analyzers.
• Proficiency in software development (Python, C/C++).
• Quick learner with a passion for fast-paced environments.

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with satellite radio systems.
• RF system design and budgeting.
• Radio characterization testing and automation.
• Proficiency with Python, Git, GNU Radio.
• Knowledge of signal processing algorithms, multi-rate techniques, beamforming, DSSS modems, and satellite waveforms.

What we offer:

Competitive compensation including equity, health benefits, flexible PTO, 401(k), and on-site meals. Salary ranges from $120,000 to $165,000 USD, influenced by experience and qualifications.
